Pumpkins

Description:A pumpkin is a vegetable related to the squash. Like other squash, pumpkins grow on vines and bushes. The pumpkin begins as a yellow flower. Once the flower is pollinated, the pumpkin emerges from the flower’s base. It starts out as a small green ball. As it grows bigger and ripens, most pumpkins will turn dark green and then to a deep shade of orange. There are also white and yellow pumpkins. Some pumpkins can grow to weigh as much as 800 pounds, or 363 kilograms. Miniature pumpkins are grown for decoration. In the autumn, pumpkins are harvested by hand.
